In recent days this proceeding to destroy the caves of Cerro de San Miguel in Granada.
On Friday 12 January, a dozen local police officers appeared at the caves delivering notifications imminent eviction within 48 hours. That information was stated that the living conditions of the caves were not adequate and that the structure of the caves were in serious danger of collapse. Besides this, the degrading treatment the @ s inhabitants, and the notice claimed that after the intervention of agents l @ s, @ s est "had to be disinfected @ s, and their vehicles." L @ s
occupants did not obey the order by not considering legal, since there was a court order signed in coming.
A week later, a hundred local police officers and National machines made their appearance with excavators and operators of City Hall, and proceeded to the walled and filled with some of the caves were not inhabited. Heavy machine crossed the hill, but in no time pondering the danger this posed to individuals who were there and for the environment.
To protest these acts was convened a sitting peacefully in front of City Hall this afternoon, attended by more than one hundred people. L @ s
inhabitants of the Hill, with the support of associations and social groups began mobilizing and collecting information about everything related to the situation. We can say that everything is happening very fast and had no knowledge of procedures was open to legal issue.
Yesterday, January 24, the police reappeared, accompanying new machines excavators and operators of City Hall, and continued the work of the wall which started a week earlier. This baffled and demoralized the @ s people, we continue with maintenance and rehabilitation of the site in addition to the relevant legal procedures. Complaints have been lodged for damage to property, but have not been taken into account to immediately stop the works.
Granada Caves are part of the city's historic heritage and are being destroyed without the Grenadian people aware of the speculative real hiding behind. If Granada loses their caves will be losing some of the essence of the city. Currently
are seeking clarification from the authorities (City of Granada and Junta de Andalucía) and social cooperation and support of any kind. In the coming days we hope to hold demonstrations and cultural events (concerts, performances ...) but do not really know how far we have. This is an appeal for support and any help is welcome.
Help us stop the destruction
